Finding employment in the legal sector

Wanting to become a lawyer, a solicitor or legal secretary? These are legal jobs that carry alot of prestige in the western world. Alongside accountants doctors and engineers, the legal profession is also a big earner if you are looking to not only have job satisfaction, but if you are looking to make money too. Most of the big US Ivy league universities have well established legal faculties/ schools alongside their world famous business schools. So there is no doubt that the getting a job as a lawyer is not to be scoffed at. Of course, one of the big issues with the legal profession is the transferability of skills . In short for a lawyer to get a law job in his home country does not mean that he can get a legal job in another country, simply because the each country has different legal systems based on similar or different sets of precedents. If though you are from a common wealth country, it is alot easier to migrate your legal skills and work in another common wealth country, with the notable exception being South Africa. England for example operates under English Law whereas South Africa operates under roman Dutch Law. So lawyers seeking work in each others country are likely to have to sit each other’s bar exam before they can qualify to trade in that country as a lawyer.

Regardless, finding a legal job in the UK, if the UK is your new country of domicile, does make your job search quite easy insofar as there are many options for you to follow. I would recommend that you go down both routes to maximize your chances of getting that all important job. firstly approach the Law society (lawsociety.org.uk/) and ask for a list of solicitors in your area and approach those nearest to you, or the other alternative is simply to do a job search on any of the Search Engines and apply to as many job sites as possible. They will effectively send your CV to all those legal practices looking to hire a solicitor, legal secretary etc.
